SubSyncer

Frequently asked questions

Why does a subtitle say timing unconfirmed?

Video details missing means the player has not identified the file. No timing reference means the file is known but no trustworthy reference was available. Reference not ready means analysis is still pending. Checks when selected means SubSyncer will try again when you choose that subtitle. A timing mismatch means the available reference did not support a safe correction; it differs from a subtitle that has not been checked. Partial match means there is promising timing evidence, but the full checks have not confirmed it. It is separate from timing unconfirmed. The timing percentage measures cue agreement with a reference, not the probability of perfect sync.

Can timing improve when I select a subtitle?

For eligible saved installs with video details and a video connection or usable English reference, SubSyncer checks candidates until it finds a confirmed or safely correctable subtitle in each language. It then leaves the remaining candidates unchecked until you select one. An unchecked candidate is downloaded and checked when selected; an already inspected candidate reuses its saved bytes. The first ready subtitle is cached for playback. A safe correction is applied when possible. If the selected file fails its timing check, SubSyncer tries up to three already downloaded alternatives in the same language and uses one only when its timing passes. If no alternative passes or the reference is still unavailable, the selected subtitle remains available without claiming verified sync. The player list label cannot update after it has been displayed.

How do I share a support report?

Scroll to the bottom of this FAQ, expand Support diagnostics, review the report, then copy or download it. It contains support codes, SubSyncer version, movie or episode IDs, timing status, stage durations and app version when reported. It excludes credentials, installation tokens, URLs, filenames and subtitle text. Reports are scoped to your saved installation.

Does matching through OpenSubtitles need a debrid key?

No Real-Debrid or AllDebrid key is needed or accepted by SubSyncer. The addon can use an exact video-hash subtitle match from OpenSubtitles or another provider, a trusted release match, or agreement between subtitle timings. A matching OpenSubtitles reference can align other subtitles without reading your debrid video. This is less certain than checking the actual video and depends on available subtitles. You do not need a separate OpenSubtitles addon. Streaming addon connections are optional for this fallback.

Does SubSyncer read Real-Debrid, AllDebrid, Premiumize or Debrid-Link files?

SubSyncer has no native account connection for these services and skips recognized debrid video hosts and labelled debrid streams when reading video timing. Their rules differ; this is an addon compatibility choice, not a claim that every service forbids simultaneous use. An opaque third-party proxy can hide the underlying host, so only connect sources you intend this server to read. Normal subtitle matching remains available without these video reads.

What happens when an app does not identify the playing file?

Without a video fingerprint or an exact filename that can be resolved through your connected addon, SubSyncer cannot confirm timing against the playing video. This includes Nuvio phone builds that omit file details. Subtitle search, ranking and cleanup still work, but exact-video sync is unavailable and subtitle-to-subtitle matching cannot prove the playing version. App behavior varies by version; the title ID alone does not identify the video file.

Can I connect Torrentio directly?

Torrentio currently returns HTTP 403 from this server, so a direct connection cannot be relied on for video discovery. You can connect a compatible AIOStreams deployment that supplies accessible stream metadata instead. AIOStreams must actually be able to reach its upstream sources; it does not guarantee that a blocked Torrentio host becomes accessible.

Do HTTP addons, MP4 files and Stremio Web work?

Subtitle search works with HTTP streaming addons and Stremio Web. For automatic video timing, connect your streaming addon manifest in Setup. The player and addon must identify the same file, the public HTTP/HTTPS video host must permit bounded Range reads from this server, and the file must contain usable embedded subtitle timing. MP4, MKV and WebM are supported containers. MP4 files without subtitle tracks, HLS/DASH playlists, DRM and links requiring custom headers are not supported for embedded timing. If the app provides no file identity, use a direct video link in the website Sync tool or choose subtitles manually. HDHub and PenguPlay depend on their individual streams and server accessibility; their names alone do not guarantee sync.

How do I set up the addon?

Add the required account details in Setup, validate them, then install in Stremio (or any Stremio addon compatible client).

Which subtitle language is supported?

SubSyncer returns Arabic subtitles. The interface language controls the website and result descriptions.

What do timing labels mean?

Matching describes the release. Already synced means the subtitle timing agrees with a verified reference. Synced by SubSyncer means a safe timing correction was applied. Unconfirmed means no reliable timing reference was available.

How are AI results ordered?

Completed SubSyncer AI and SubSyncer Sync files rank alongside provider subtitles within your result limit. Up to two additional results offer new AI translations. Using a completed shared file does not consume another AI generation.

How does Auto choose a source?

Auto detects the subtitle language from the text. To find a source, it prefers the original language from TMDB, then English, then the best available subtitle in another language. Search on a title page always finds English subtitles.

Where can I find saved translations?

Open a title in Browse to choose a version, preview its text and download SRT. Completed public translations are also available to other users of the addon.

Can I sync a subtitle using a video link?

Choose a subtitle or upload one, then paste a direct HTTP/HTTPS video link in Sync. The video must support partial downloads and contain usable embedded subtitle timing. SubSyncer compares subtitle cue times, including real cue durations when available, with that embedded track and applies a verified offset or rate correction. It does not transcribe audio. A mismatch is reported when the timing cannot be confirmed.

Why can a 720p subtitle rank above a 2160p one?

Subtitle resolution describes the release it was made for, not how accurate its timing is. Exact-file evidence keeps priority, and reliable matching or safely repairable timing outweighs ordinary filename matches. A higher resolution alone does not mean better sync.

What does the timing percentage measure?

It measures how many subtitle cue timings agree with a trusted video or release reference after the measured timing adjustment. It is not a rating of translation quality. ?% appears when there is no reliable reference or the match is ambiguous. Read the timing status too: a measured match can still need correction.

Can I choose what appears in subtitle results?

New or unformatted setups default to the full Source, quality and timing format, with Result descriptions matching the Setup page language. Full description remains available as a separate preset, along with Compact, Filename, Title and quality, and Timing first. Available formats follow the configuration page language. Arabic formats select Arabic result descriptions and localize title metadata when available, quality names and timing labels. Original filenames remain unchanged. The live preview shows illustrative synced and unconfirmed subtitles in your chosen result language. Enable Detailed results to show these descriptions in your player.

How do I write my own result format?

Choose Custom, then combine {rank}, {language}, {title}, {filename}, {source}, {quality}, {sync}, and {percent} with your own separators. The preview updates as you type. Filename preserves the release name; Sync and Percent describe measured timing. Choose Full description to restore the standard layout.

How do I apply changed settings to my player?

Open Setup from your saved installation and press Save changes. Added or changed connections use Validate & save. Preferences and turning AI off save without checking unchanged keys. Reopen the video to refresh its subtitles. If a change requires reinstalling, a red message after saving tells you to use the installation link.

Where did the Arabic punctuation option go?

Arabic punctuation repair is always on. It fixes reversed terminal punctuation and keeps punctuation and brackets aligned with Arabic dialogue. Cue numbers and timestamps stay intact, including when subtitle verification is off.

How are subtitles cleaned up?

Sound descriptions, translator credits and subtitle support messages at the beginning and end are removed automatically. Overlapping cues are preserved. Timing repair runs automatically as well.

Do I need TorBox for automatic video sync?

Connect your TorBox account or a compatible streaming addon in Sync to your video. The player must supply a video fingerprint or an exact filename that the connection can resolve and fingerprint. The matching file must contain usable embedded subtitle timing. If an exact video reference is unavailable, the addon continues normal subtitle matching and does not invent a correction.

Why is timing sometimes unconfirmed or left unchanged?

A missing video fingerprint, unavailable file, unusable embedded track, conflicting cuts or ambiguous timing can prevent confirmation. Subtitle verification and timing repair run automatically. Refresh after a slow video lookup finishes; subtitles from a different edit may need another release.

Can I save more than one Gemini key?

You can save up to five Gemini keys. Access failures, rate limits or connection failures can advance to another saved key while keeping the selected model. OpenRouter has its own separate key. Switching providers restores their saved credentials; extra keys do not add result slots or bypass provider account quotas.

When does selecting an AI subtitle start translation?

A new translation starts when you select or download an AI offer, or submit a source subtitle in Browse. Browsing the results does not generate text. A matching completed translation is reused without another generation. Provider quotas and charges still apply to new translations.

Can I search or upload a subtitle for a specific episode?

Open the movie or series in Browse, select the episode if needed, then search for an English source subtitle or upload your file. Preview the source and check its release tags before translating. Choosing the correct episode and video cut matters more than resolution alone.

What are subtitle requests for?

If the version you need is missing, create a request for the movie or episode and its release requirements. You can follow or vote on existing requests. A completed matching translation can fulfill the request, with exact or closest matching shown when available.

Where can I follow translation and sync progress?

Progress and download links stay beside the action on the movie or episode page. Queued episodes show their status beneath the queue. SubSyncer has no daily AI translation or website sync cap. Gemini and OpenRouter still enforce their own account quotas.

Why did a subtitle download link expire?

Downloaded provider subtitles are cached so their file links can survive server restarts. An older link issued before this fix, an expired ticket or an evicted cache file can still become unavailable. Refresh the subtitle list in Stremio and select the subtitle again. An expired local link reports expiry instead of a Cloudflare Bad Gateway page.

Are website syncs shared with the addon?

Successful Arabic syncs on a movie or episode page are saved as SubSyncer Sync. Safe automatic addon repairs are also saved when Stremio downloads the corrected subtitle, provided the repair was verified against the exact video’s embedded timing. Discover shows the latest synced movies and series; title details offer previews and downloads. The addon offers a synced file only when the playing video fingerprint matches the verified version. Original provider files stay unchanged. Account keys and video links are not shared.

Are my account keys public?

Account keys stay in your saved server configuration. Keep your personal installation link private. Public subtitle downloads do not expose your provider keys.
